VENICE

Who knew when we made our original itinerary for the honeymoon that we would not only end up in romantic Venice on Valentine’s, but also on Carnival weekend!?!?
We could not have planned it better!

Our hotel was just off the Grand Canal with a view of the water and the Ponte degli Scalzi. A great location!

We roamed the streets with a million other people. Lots of Italians and tons of foreigners! Ever language and corner of the earth was represented!

The costuming and the masks were extraordinary. People really take Carnival seriously. There were comical outfits and the hugely detailed traditional dresses… the pictures will explain it best.

We ate some amazing meals, a lot of gelato and Shauna drank more than her share of Prosecco and café! And I of coarse had to indulge in a meringue the size of my head. Delicious!

Valentine’s was perfectly capped off with a romantic gondola ride through the canals on a beautiful, sunny day. As a married couple we have now set the standard for Valentine’s Day celebrations far too high…. How do you top this!!!

All in all, we were thrilled to finally arrive in Italy. LOVE LOVE LOVE it!
